Volunteers are a valuable resource for the Astoria Public Library. They bring a wide range of skills, talents, and experiences to tasks that assist Library patrons and staff. In doing so, they play a significant role in providing services beyond the scope of the regular Library budget.
What tasks do volunteers do?
*Provide easy access to library materials by shelving, organizing collections and helping people use the library web site.
*Encourage kids to develop reading skills by assisting in programs.
*Share creative talents through special events, displays and special projects.
*Preserve library resources by using easy mending techniques.
What are the steps to becoming a volunteer?
1) Print out an
Astoria Public Library Volunteer Application complete it and submit it to library staff.
2) Meet with the Volunteer Coordinator for an interview. You will be contacted to schedule a time to meet.
3) Attend a library volunteer orientation and training.
Is there a time commitment for volunteering?
Time commitments will be determined during the Volunteer Interview. Staff will work with you to accommodate your schedule and address the requirements of community service goals or special projects.
