INTERN FIREFIGHTERS
Our Student Internship program is an exciting and fun opportunity for
people who are interested in a career in Firefighting or Emergency Medical Services to gain experience
while attending college classes. Students work the same schedule as the career firefighting staff, and in
return the Fire Department awards them with a full scholarship to Clatsop Community College. While on duty
each Student Intern gains valuable hands on experience at emergency incidents, as well as learning the
normal day to day activities common among career or combination career/ volunteer fire departments.
For many of our student interns, our program is a helpful way of achieving their goal of getting hired as a
full time Firefighter/EMT. For others, our program is a good learning environment in which students can
safely get a very in-depth perspective of the challenges, both mentally and physically, which face such a
demanding career, and gives them the opportunity to decide if such a career is right for them.
