The Astoria Budget Committee's job is to review the budget submitted by the staff and to set spending policy and the tax rate for the coming year.
The committee is made up five City Council members and five others. Terms are for three years.

The committee generally meets during the months of March, April, and May in the City Hall Council Chambers.
Knowledge of general finance and an understanding of the business operated by the City are helpful, but not absolutely necessary, since the City is a huge business and it does take considerable time to understand all of the city operations.
